Description

’bout is live chat for live TV and sports, synced to each viewer’s screen so nothing gets spoiled.

Every TV feed runs behind the live game by a different amount: an antenna by about 20 seconds, some streaming services by close to a minute. In an ordinary group chat, whoever is furthest ahead spoils the play for everyone else. ’bout holds each message until the reader’s own screen reaches the moment it was sent, so a whole room of fans on different providers reacts together, each on their own feed. A single tap at a moment the room names, like the game clock hitting 12:00, lines a viewer up with everyone else. Every big game and episode gets its own room, and chat can replay alongside a recording.

’bout is in early access on the web, starting with the NFL, the NBA, college football, college basketball and reality TV. Apps for iPhone and Android are on the way.

Write it ’bout: lowercase, even at the start of a sentence or in a headline, with a closing apostrophe (’) in front. If your system can’t set that character, a plain apostrophe ('bout) is fine. The website is bout.chat.
